오... 병아리가 부화 시작했어요.

On 6/21/22
7/9/22

The blackie (the name of the egg-laying chicken) continues to incubate in the meantime.  The fertilized egg was placed on the 21st of last month, so today, 7/9, is the 18th day passed.  Generally, chick hatching period is 21 days, but some hatch from on the 19th day, so my heart is getting busy and exited.   Yesterday, I removed the soil from the floor of the chicken coop and laid the new soil on it.  I made a wall in the middle and put other 3 hens to the left.  The right side will be a space only for blackie and the newly born chicks.  This is to ensure that the chicks can spend at least a month with their mothers without the intervention of their aunts after hatching.  I'll let you know as soon as the chicks are born.

In the meantime, I had to look at what eggs the Blackie was incubating once every 2-4 days.  This is because the Aunts lay eggs when Blackie is away for water and feed.  After checking, except for the 5 fertilized eggs, the eggs laid by the Aunts were taken out. (: Almost done. We can see some chicks soon, hopefully.

Today is the 18th day since eggs were put in.  I just went in to check the condition of the chicken coop, but suddenly I heard a familiar sound.  It was the sound of two black chicks sticking their heads between their mom -  Blackie wings.  The chicks' fur looked still wet, so it must have just hatched.  The status of the other 3 is still unknown.  We'll see soon.
